Setting up a Fishing forum

Being more of a fishing expert, I was surprised to see how complicated setting up a fishing forum. While I knew it would take some time before people started posting, I figured the details for configuration would be simple – they were not.

For one, I wanted to be notified every time someone registered so I could approve. This is a sure fire way to prevent spam, but making a user wait too long for registration is a sure fire way to avoid getting any subscribers.

Well, it took me an hour last night to figure out why I was not getting emails for new registered users. It is now working :) back to writing new fishing tips.

Bass Fishing Gurus Forum

We are looking to build a form for Bass Fishing Gurus. We are looking for a few people who would be willing to moderate the forum. You do not have to be an experienced angler to moderate, just love fishing.

Your role would be to delete users and posts that are posting spam. Please visit our main site: http://bassfishing-gurus.com and send us an email from the contact us page under the home menu.

Simon

Invasive Species destroying Florida Largemouth Bass Habitat

Florida offers a large habitat for the Florida Largemouth Bass with over 10,500 miles/16,898 kilometres of rivers, streams and canals. Most are surprised to find out that Florida has some 7,710 named lakes.

These waterways are filled with Florida Largemouth Bass, which can get up to an amazing 17.27 pounds/7.8 Kg, though, it is rumoured that a 20.125/9.13 Kg bass was caught.

However, native fish species are under threat for a new invasive species, the snakehead. These fish have no known predator in Florida and have a very aggressive nature that will attack whether it is hungry or not.

Know more: Rainbow Trout Facts

Bass Fishing Gurus recently started coverage of the Rainbow Trout. While bass fishing gurus began as a bass only site, we quickly found out that most anglers like trout, salmon and charr. For 2012, we have expanded our site to include charr, which include the popular lake trout, brook trout and the bull trout.

All major pacific and Atlantic salmon were added and we just began our coverage on the Rainbow Trout. The rainbow trout was recently classified as a salmon from DNA testing. Prior to testing it was considered a trout. It is actually close to being a salmon than other salmon.

The rainbow trout has been misclassified since it was discovered in 1792. To this date, most people believe it is a true trout.

BP Oil Spill Aftermath, eyeless fish and shrimp…

BP Oil Spill Aftermath: Eyeless Shrimp, Clawless Crabs and Fish with Oozing Sores
Al Jazeera just published an astonishing report on the after-effects of the BP oil disaster, and it’s not pretty. There are an alarming number of deformities in sea creatures: mutated shrimp, fish with sores and lesions, eyeless crabs and more. It’s unlike anything local fisherman have ever seen.
How bad is it?
The effect that the oil spill and its reckless cleanup has on sea life is frightening, damning and sad. Here’s a list of deformities that Al Jazeera found in its report:

Shrimp with tumors on their heads
Shrimp with defects on their gills and “shells missing around their gills and head”
Shrimp without eyes
Shrimp with babies still attached to them
Eyeless fish
Fish without eye-sockets
Fish without covers on their gills
Fish with large pink masses hanging off their eyes and gills
Crates of blue crabs, all of which were lacking at least one claw
Crabs with holes in their shells
Crabs with shells that have no spikes or claws or misshapen claws
Crabs that are dying from within
The fishermen, scientists, and seafood processors who talked to Al Jazeera are all in unison: They’ve never seen this before. Some have worked in and around the Gulf for over 20 years, and most have seen thousands and thousands of fish. This is the first time they’re seeing the mass mutation and destruction of seafood.

Chinook Salmon Chemical Build up

We do not wish to scare you off farmed fish, but hope that awareness will bring caution and perhaps change. Pregnant woman need to be especially careful as the following chemicals are used on farmed salmon: Ivermectin, emamectin benzoate, oxytetracycline, florfenicol, Romet 30, sulfadimethoxine and ormetoprim, sulfadiazine and trimethoprim, tricaine methanesulfonate, formaldehyde, florfenicol and hydrogen peroxide.

Furthermore, in 2003 a study showed that farmed salmon show very high levels of PCB, “farmed salmon are likely the most PCB-contaminated protein source in the US food supply. On average farmed salmon have 16 times the dioxin-like PCBs found in wild salmon.”
