The Roanoke bass can be fished all year around especially when you are after other fish. Much like the rock bass, the Roanoke Bass prefers to stay out of the sun and is a bottom feeder. Their favourite foods include crayfish, fathead minnows, golden shiners, gizzard shad, leeches, and worms.

But these are hardly surprises for the average bass angler. All bass prefer to stay out of direct sunlight and most bass prefer to wait in ambush for their prey. In fact, all members of the sunfish family are so well designed that they are easily able to launch from a standing position to speed very quickly because of their design. This same design also affords them to be able to turn very quickly and not let their prey out maneuver them.

The techniques for catching Roanoke bass are very simple once you know where to find them. Like all bass, they prefer cover. They will hide out of the sun under docks, boats, by weed beds, under shoreline outcrops and various underwater cover like boat wrecks, sunken trees or pretty much any kind of garbage.
