Try using a subsurface minnow bait like the woolly bugger in a way to replicate the movements of dragonfly nymphs, damselfly nymphs, leeches and minnows.

Shoal Bass do not under go any changes in chemistry from spring to summer. However, in most of their habitats, the rivers they are found in have a reduced flow and volume of water. Shoals and riffles that are great spots in spring may not be sufficiently deep enough or cool enough to attract Shoal Bass.

However, despite these changes, this is the best time to catch Shoal Bass and is second only to the early fall months. Actually, the best time to catch them is as they finish their spawning in May and continuing through to July.

Try using a subsurface minnow bait like the woolly bugger in a way to replicate the movements of dragonfly nymphs, damselfly nymphs, leeches and minnows. Top water plugs and worms are a good bait and work well during the afternoon hours.

Look for large rocks breaks that lead into deeper holes that break all the way to 12 feet. In summer, the Shoal Bass can be found between 18 inches to seven feet down.
