Yellow Bass Summer Fishing
Lures and baits that resemble small insects, fathead minnows, golden shinners, gizzard shad and other small baitfish including other young predatory fish.
Yellow Bass summer techniques are based on deep water fishing in the summer. They prefer deep structures with significant depth changes nearby, humps, ledges and creek channel bends much the same way that Largemouth Bass enjoy.
Equipment
A good sonar device is helpful in finding yellow bass when they are located in deep water. The best fish finders have dual beams, offering a greater picture of the bottom. Grey is preferred over colour as it always provides a higher resolution. The only other feature worth noting is one with a GPS. GPS units are great for angler that enjoy night fishing and those that fish in remote locations. There is nothng worse than getting lost when being low on fuel.
All bass fishing boats should be equiped with an electric motor so as not to scare away the fish. It is amazing how many angler avoid this tool.
Use lures and baits that resemble small insects, minnows, small shad, small sunfish, insects and insect larvae.
While Yellow Bass feed throughout the day, overcast and night conditions work well, especially those nights with a new moon. They will often chase their prey into shallow waters, leaving their deep locations they dwell during the day. Their preferred temperature range varies through the year.
Lures
Lures and baits that resemble small insects, fathead minnows, golden shinners, gizzard shad and other small baitfish including other young predatory fish. Yellow Bass also enjoy insects and insect larvae. However, minnows are the best bait to use on Yellow Bass, though they are very effective at catching other fish as well.
Try a lighted slip-bobber rig by first attaching a bobber stop and then thread on a small bead so the knot cannot slip through the hole in the bobber. A number four hook is sufficient but make sure you use enough sinkers to balance the bobber.
